The Annual General Meeting on MyHome in Canberra was held on 21 November 2019 and well attended.
Shukry Sahhar, President of MyHome, reviewed the year in this speech, highlighting:
- the continuing need for suitable homes of people with an enduring mental illness
- advantages of the proposal made jointly by the Uniting Church and MyHome
- the recent Cohort Study of housing needs of people with high and complex needs
- ACT Housing’s brief for a consultant to examine the business plan and governance arrangements of MyHome.
Eileen Clune spoke movingly about caring for an adult child with mental illness.
Anne Pratt, manager of HOME in Queanbeyan, described how HOME provides secure accommodation, with support from professionals and volunteers, for its twenty residents. She then answered a range of questions from those attending.
John Eyers reported on progress in updating MyHome’s website.
During the formal part of the meeting, Matt Jackson joined the Board as Deputy President.
