Last year we shared news of Wesley Mission’s proposal to develop and operate MyHome jointly with affordable rental housing on the site in Curtin offered by the Woden Valley Uniting Church.
During this year the project team in Wesley Mission has reached an advanced stage in negotiation with the ACT and Commonwealth Governments about financing, and so it is probable the combined development will go ahead during 2025-27.
Accordingly, the Chief Financial Officer of Wesley Mission, David Cannings, visited from Sydney and took part in our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 21 November, to discuss the proposed development with our members and others who attended.
Information about the combined development, and about community consultation on it, is on the WesleyCurtin website. Consultation will include:
- a public meeting organised by the Curtin Residents Association, at 3.30pm on Sunday 24 November in the main hall of the Woden Valley Uniting Church at 40 Gillies Street, Curtin;
- a pop-up information stall outside Coles in the Curtin shopping centre during the afternoon of Thursday 28 November; and
- a workshop meeting on 4 December to discuss all aspects of the combined development – with prior registration through the WesleyCurtin website needed.
The key AGM documents, now on our website, are:
- a report by our President, Shukry Sahhar, and
- financial statements for FY 2024 prepared by our Treasurer, Bob Ellison.
The members of the committee of the MyHome in Canberra association for the coming year are:
- President – Shukry Sahhar
- Vice-President – Pauline Sullivan
- Treasurer – Bob Ellison
- Secretary – John Eyers
- Committee Member – Barbara Fogarty
