MyHome in Canberra aims to provide a safe, supportive and caring home and high quality care to people with enduring mental illness. The ACT has the second highest rate of homelessness in Australia. On Census night in 2011, there were 1,785 ACT residents who were homeless. The most recent data indicates that up to 85 per cent of homeless people suffer from at least one mental disorder.

There is very little appropriate and effective supported accommodation for people in Canberra with mental illness. The urgent need to provide suitable supported accommodation for people with severe and enduring mental health issues is a major priority for the mental health sector and mental health consumers and carers.
MyHome in Canberra is a community initiative which aims to build and provide safe, secure, and affordable supported accommodation and high quality care for people with serious, enduring long term mental illness who are unable to care for themselves without appropriate support services.
MyHome in Canberra Inc. became an incorporated not for profit association on 28 February 2014 and now has a strong and effective Board comprising people with a wide range of diverse skills, experience and abilities. MyHome in Canberra will complement, not replace or compete with, existing services.There is very little appropriate and effective supported accommodation for people in Canberra with mental illness.
